ELK DOG
COMPETITIVE RIDING CO.
Mika
(Choctaw) The Racoon
Mika was rescued from a farm going out of business. Shes an old lady, but dont let that fool you, shes minxy. In her younger years, she was trained for dressage, but now teaches others how to ride. Her name means "the racoon" because of her thick coat and speckled coloring. Shes quite the sweetheart........and treat hound.

THE ELK DOG FAMILY

Leyeti
(Miwok) Shaped Like An Abalone Shell
Being half Quarter Horse/Half Arabian is usually a good thing! It seems Leyeti somehow got the weird from both sides of the gene pool, but we love him. The poor guy; he's awkward- his neck is too big and his butt is too little, but he works it. Hes a super sweet guy who will patiently tolerate having his mane braided and brushed, and toes painted pink by hoards of little girls, though we know hes actually thinking "really guys? what the hell."
Formerly known as "DJ ", Leyeti is Elk Dogs first lesson pony. We love him dearly.

Aditsan
(Navajo) The One Who Listens
Aditsan came off of a trailer jam-packed with horses going to Auction, all of which were screaming, terrified, and bleeding from shipping accidents -- that was the first shock. He was sold to someone at my barn under the misrepresentation of being a healthy sound horse. After he was delivered and the trailer of unwanted souls hauled away, the now owner, was left with the reality of Aditsans condition, he is completely blind.
Aditsans owners came to me with one question- "can we save this horse?". After working with him a couple times, the answer became- "I think we can". Aditsan has found a home at Elk Dog Competitive Riding Co., where he is in training for a career in reigning.
Aditsan has an unbelievable amount of courage and trust for people. He has a sound mind, despite all the insanity that we can only guess was his life before coming off that over crowded trailer that day. He really is an inspiration to push through the challenging times and to never lose faith that the sun will shine again.
